Your Safety Matters

Meeting new people should be exciting, not stressful. Follow these guidelines to stay safe while using UANI.

Before You Meet

  • Trust Your Instincts: If something feels off about a person or conversation, trust your gut. It's okay to unmatch or block someone.
  • Get to Know Them First: Use in-app chat or video calls before meeting in person to gauge compatibility and comfort level.
  • Keep Personal Info Private: Don't share your home address, workplace, or financial information until you've met and established trust.
  • Verify Their Identity: While UANI verifies all users, you can also video chat before meeting to confirm they match their profile.
  • Tell Someone: Let a friend or family member know where you're going, who you're meeting, and when you expect to be back.

Meeting in Person

  • Choose Public Places: Always meet in well-lit, populated public spaces like cafés, restaurants, or parks.
  • Plan Your Own Transportation: Drive yourself or arrange your own ride. Never let a stranger pick you up from your home.
  • Stay Sober: Keep a clear head, especially on first meetings. Don't leave your drink unattended.
  • Keep Your Phone Charged: Make sure your phone is charged and easily accessible in case of emergency.
  • Share Your Location: Use your phone's location-sharing feature with a trusted friend during the date.
  • Set Boundaries: It's okay to leave if you feel uncomfortable. You don't owe anyone your time or attention.

Red Flags to Watch For

  • Someone who refuses to video chat or meet in public
  • Requests for money, gift cards, or financial help
  • Pressuring you to move conversations off the app quickly
  • Inconsistent stories or vague answers about their life
  • Pushing physical boundaries or making you uncomfortable
  • Aggressive, controlling, or disrespectful behavior

Emergency: If you feel unsafe or threatened, leave immediately and call local emergency services. Your safety is the top priority.
